This remote circuit combines classic wildlife country with Kenya's dramatic north. Travel through Marsabit and the Chalbi Desert to Loiyangalani on Lake Turkana, meet El Molo and Turkana communities, then return through Maralal, Solio and Naivasha. Desert routing is adjusted when rain makes the Chalbi track impassable.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arrive Nairobi

    Meet on arrival and transfer to the 67 Airport Hotel for an overnight stay on a bed-and-breakfast basis.

  2. Day 2

    Nairobi to Ol Pejeta

    Drive approximately 220 km to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Take an afternoon game drive, then dine and overnight at Sweetwaters Serena Camp.

  3. Day 3

    Full day at Ol Pejeta

    Morning game drive and rhino sanctuary visit, including the northern white rhinos. After lunch, visit the chimpanzee sanctuary and continue game viewing until evening.

  4. Day 4

    Ol Pejeta to Samburu

    Drive to Samburu National Reserve, arrive for lunch, and take an afternoon game drive. Overnight at Elephant Bedroom Camp or Riverside Eco Camp.

  5. Day 5

    Full day in Samburu

    Spend the day game viewing in Samburu National Reserve. A Buffalo Springs extension requires additional reserve permits. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

  6. Day 6

    Samburu to Marsabit

    Continue north to Marsabit, arriving around midday. Picnic at the park entrance and game drive until evening before dinner and overnight at Jerime Hotel.

  7. Day 7

    Marsabit to Loiyangalani

    Leave early for an expedition through Maikona and the Chalbi Desert. If rain makes the desert track impassable, travel via Kalacha, North Horr and Gas. Dinner and overnight at Palm Shade Resort.

  8. Day 8

    Lake Turkana and Loiyangalani

    Visit an El Molo village, the Desert Museum and the oasis associated with the filming of The Constant Gardener. After lunch and time to relax, visit a Turkana village and watch the sunset.

  9. Day 9

    South Island National Park

    Take a boat excursion from Loiyangalani to South Island National Park when lake and wave conditions permit, then return to Loiyangalani.

  10. Day 10

    Loiyangalani to Maralal

    Travel through South Horr and Baragoi, stopping for northern Kenya views before reaching Maralal. Dinner and overnight at Ngari Hills.

  11. Day 11

    Maralal to Solio Ranch and Nyahururu

    Drive to Solio Ranch with a picnic prepared in Maralal. Game drive in this renowned rhino sanctuary, then continue to Thomson's Falls Lodge in Nyahururu.

  12. Day 12

    Nyahururu to Naivasha

    Drive to Naivasha for lunch at Dea's Gardens. Cross by boat to Crescent Island for a guided walk of approximately 90 minutes to two hours, then return for dinner and overnight.

  13. Day 13

    Naivasha to Nairobi

    Enjoy a relaxed breakfast and early lunch before returning to Nairobi for an evening flight.
